Spring tiiime....the only ringy ding tiiime.

Spring is on its way! I'm looking forward to being able to take Evan out for walks in the nicer weather. The big snowbank in our driveway finally melted and I was able to pry out our Christmas tree. We had put it out on trash night in early January and in the middle of the night both the snowplow and the little sidewalk plow came through and buried it in snow. Then everything froze and it was buried under a couple feet of snow & ice. That just melted within the last week. Ugh. I like snow but I am ready for Spring!

Evan is a little learning sponge. Yesterday Dan taught him where his nose it. If you say "nose" to him he puts his finger on his nose. So cute!
He is also a little human hoover when it comes to food. He loves to eat whatever we are eating and really packs it away. He ate a grilled cheese and a half for dinner last night along with an apple. The day before he ate a good helping of my mom's veggie lasagna (yum!).

I leave you with a picture. I gave Ev a roll of (brand new) toilet paper to play with the other day. He loves how soft and squishy it is and that it goes on seemingly forever. As he crawled away this is what I noticed. The baby equivalent of having toilet paper stuck to your shoe :D

Evan the Ham, and Invite Only

Evan is such a little ham these days. He picks up on so much and delights in making us laugh. He has the most contagious giggle! He loves to initiate games of hide and seek (really just a little more advanced version of peek-a-boo) and he enjoys feeding us bits of his food. He is showing less and less interest in his pablum and more interest in "big boy" food (i.e. whatever we are eating). He also likes to eat soft Macintosh apples. They are a soft apple so he holds on to it and gnaws at it and we don't need to worry that he might bite off a large, hard chunk. He also has figured out how to flip his pacifier right side up if it ends up in his mouth upside down.

Dan has been working quite a bit these last few days, something about some problems with a big client and their servers. Or something like that. I don't understand 95% of what he does so that is my approximation of what is happening :) In any case, he has been going full steam ahead all weekend (he managed to get a 2 hour nap from 1 to 3 am this morning) and he will be taking some days off when this is done (hopefully in the next few days). Evan and I miss him!

I am going to be making this blog invite-only soon so if you read it please click on the 'follow' button on the right side of the blog. That way I'll know who reads it and will be able to put you on the list, so to speak :)
If you are already a follower then no further action is required :)

Here are a few pictures of him eating his apples and sitting in the rocking chair like a big boy, and just being a happy boy in general. He loves to sit in it by himself and rock.

On Our Own Again

Kim left yesterday. It's so quiet and lonely without her here. I always wish she could stay longer. Of all places, she has to live in almost the exact antipode of Halifax.
I am tracking her flights. She had a long flight from Dulles to Tokyo yesterday. I watched the flight path, it went way up north over the Yukon and Alaska and the Bering Sea. She is just about to take off for her final leg from Singapore to Perth.
I was sick for the last week of her visit, which I am still mad about. Awful stomach bug. Luckily Dan only had a very mild version of it and no one else seemed to be affected. I didn't really get out of bed for 4 days. Bleh.

I'll leave you with a couple pictures from a few days ago. Auntie and Evan.

Back in Town

We're back from our trip to Ontario. It as fun but tiring with a baby and we are all glad to be back home.

Tuesday - We got up very early and caught our flight to Toronto. We rented a mini van, drove to Kingston and visited my Nana at my Uncle Don and Marg's house out on Louborough Lake. We left around 7:30 and went back to our hotel to sleep.

Wednesday - We met Don, Marg & Nana at a Chinese buffet for lunch. We were there for several hours and took lots of pictures.
That evening Dan, Evan and I went over to Shaun & Nickie's. Shaun was at work but we hung out with Nickie and Deena and had dinner and talked and played with the kids. It was so much fun to be around her again.

Thursday - Dan, Evan and I met Shaun, Nickie and Deena for breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was really yummy. We talked for a long time and finally had to say goodbye to go check out. We drove back to Toronto and arrived around six p.m. Geoff arrived from Amsterdam just before we checked in to the hotel and he was already in the room across from us when we got there -- perfect. Evan fell asleep early as he hadn't napped since the early morning so mom stayed at the hotel with him while the rest of us went to Jack Astor's for dinner.

Friday - Dan, Evan, Kim, Geoff and I went to Yorkdale to shop while mom and dad went to some window and door store half an hour away. At 2:00 we met Chilina and Nicko for lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. It was great to see them, I hadn't seen Nicko in a few years!
After lunch we went back to the hotel for awhile and then went to a Thai restaurant for dinner. After that it was back to the hotel for sleeeep.

Saturday - Our flight didn't leave until 7:45 p.m. so we had lots of time to kill. We had a leisurely morning and went back to Yorkdale to kill time. Kim & I had a lot of fun in Sephora, Gymboree (ok, it was mostly me that had fun there) and Juicy. We returned the rental van, checked in at the airport and got home no problems. The flight crew on the returning flight were so friendly and funny. I have never heard the "here is how to fasten your seatbealt and here are the emergency exits" speal done like that before. I wish I had a recording.

Anyway, I'll post pictures once I find our camera.

Almost Here!

After several weather related delays Kim's plane just took off from JFK and she should be here in a little over an hour. I'm so excited! I haven't seen her since September 2007. Too long! This will be the first time she has met Evan. (I was going to say her 'first nephew' but since Evan is both the first and the last it seemed a little redundant).

She has had a long trip; she was supposed to go from Cairo to London to Montreal to Halifax, however due to bad weather in London she was rerouted directly from Cairo to JFK. She was supposed to catch her JFK to Halifax flight last night but due to snow, freezing rain and strong winds from here down the Eastern seaboard her flight was canceled and rescheduled for today. And that is just her most recent travels; she has already gone from Australia to South Africa to Kenya to Tanzania to Egypt in less than two months. I don't know how she does it. I'm too much of a homebody.

Check back later for pictures!
